Winners 2026

This years ScanStar competition gained 30 packaging solutions from Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, showcasing the strength and creativity of the Nordic packaging industry.

The jury highlighted the exceptionally high standard of entries, making the selection process both inspiring and challenging. After careful evaluation, 18 winners were awarded: 12 to Finland, 2 to Norway, 2 to Sweden and 2 to Denmark.

ScanStar is the annual Nordic packaging competition organized by the Scandinavian Packaging Association (SPA). Established in 1969, it has grown into a prestigious platform for showcasing the best packaging solutions in the region. The competition is open to all packaging designed, manufactured, or used in the Nordic countries.

This year the competition was organized by The Finnish Packaging Association.

The packages awarded with ScanStar get the right to participate in the WorldStar competition, which is organized by the World Packaging Organization WPO.

ScanStar Sudent 2026

This year’s ScanStar Student competition received 25 entries from students across Nordic countries. The jury was impressed by the high level of creativity and problem-solving skills demonstrated in the projects. The submissions showcased how the next generation of designers and packaging specialists are ready to push the industry forward with fresh ideas and bold thinking.

Chicken-Salami Potato Casserole in Carton tray

Casserole in carton tray with minimum use of plastic (5.2 grams) in whole package. Lightweight and recyclable carton tray can withstand oven, micro-oven and air fryer heating while it serves as transport, retail, and cooking packaging in one.
Packaging reduces the use of fossil-based raw materials, lowers the carbon footprint, contributing to a positive consumer perception. “Probably the most sustainable ready meal packaging”, states the jury.

Mignon easter egg gift box


Mignon easter egg is a real eggshell hand-filled with almond-hazelnut nougat. “This new gift and transport carton board packaging for easter eggs has a unique structure and functionality, and it is a clever extension of the previous packaging. The elegant, monomaterial packaging creates more value to the product”.

IUD sterilizing packaging


The packaging designer created a corrugated board inner packaging for a medical sterilization box. It is designed to securely position individual IUD packages during automated production and sterilization. “Efficient use of space, a really simplified packaging. Minimalistic, functional and clever design”, stated the jury.

Modular display with adjustable shelves for cleaning supplies

Modular floor display with adjustable shelves which has been specifically optimized for efficient loading on EUR-pallet. Fully fiber-based innovation with optimized logistic efficiency.  “Unique display can be intuitively assembled. Its height is flexible and one pod is replacing three. Clever solution”, says the jury.

Cardboard tube packaging with paper inlay for food supplements


A fully food-grade paper packaging solution including an inner lid made entirely from paper. “The packaging stands out in its category”, says the jury. ”It is also lightweight and nice to touch”. The jury criticizes that use of black colour harms the recycling process but understands that it gives some extra for consumers to notice the product on store self where white plastic or brown glass bottles is a standard.

Cold cuts packaging


Atria has developed a resealable, consumer friendly packaging for cold cuts. Opening corner is better than standard. “Reclose with rigid formed top film closing mechanism works well so this kind of packaging can save food. It is also space-efficient in the logistics chain” stated the jury.

Gift box for Djusie cosmetics

Beautifully designed, embossed gift box for cosmetics which is simple and elegant in its category. It optimizes use of uncoated packaging material.

Glomma Papp /
Easee


This packaging solution was developed to meet the customer’s need to pack three different kits with varying components, while achieving a high degree of standardization with as few packaging parts as possible.
“Good benefits both economically and operationally.  One packaging for multiple items without a need for plastic or even tools. Designer job well done”, says the jury.

Kjaer & Sommerfeldt Wine gift boxes


A portfolio of wine gift packaging for 1, 2, 3 and 6 wine bottles – combining aesthetics with strong construction and practical functionality transporting heavy bottles. “Luxurious look and  even touch with all the finished details”, said the jury.

Light pack for Sartorius Laboratory pipettes


Tip Packaging Light Pack is an innovative low-plastic pipette tip box developed by Sartorius Liquid Handling Oy and Pyroll Packaging Group Oy. The packaging is built around an outer structure made from a single cartonboard sheet, complemented by a precisely engineered plastic tip tray. Lightweight packaging with a new way of thinking – you can challenge the use of plastic, said the jury. Members were especially thrilled of the click-sound when closing the packaging.

Shelf ready packaging for hand creams

One piece solution for shelf-ready packaging for Erisan hand cream tubes. Efficient, easily usable packaging that works both transport and on store self. Smartly designed, said the jury.

Pa-Hu / Shoe rack packaging

Minimalistic shoe rack packaging which optimizes use of space. No extra fillers needed. You can see that product and packaging designer worked well together, said the jury. An extra star for that, stated the jury.

Pa-Hu / Well water analysis kit

Packaging is designed to be intuitive and easy to use for people who are not professionals. The locking is reliable for sending the kit with well water samples back to the lab. Good thinking, considering its functionality and reusability. Clear instructions.

Stora Enso / Sievi shoe display

Visually compelling POS display, which enables a two-sided presentation of products. This display has little extra with its functionality and it is redefining displays, says the jury.

Stora Enso / Halton radiant panels

Reusable packaging concept for radiant panels, used in two-way logistics chain from manufacturing site to construction site and back to manufacturing site. A clever solution saves costs and waste of recourses. Reusability of fibre-based packaging really impressed the jury.

Smurfit Westrock / Dumle chocolate bar display

Prepacked display for Fazer Dumle chocolate bars is easy and quick to fold up. Good side and back supports. Handles higher loads thanks to the built‑in bottom. Compact, sturdy and stable display is easy to assembly, said the jury.

Paptic / foldable bag

A fiber-based shopping bag that folds into a compact form for easy carrying, driving reuse and reducing waste. Folding is impossible for conventional paper bag. Lovely material, and foldability makes it easy to store and even carry in your handbag for reuse.
Faerch /
Recycled PET tray for Norfersk

Faerchʼs circular PET trays made with minimum 70% recycled PET plastic, which has been sourced entirely from used food trays (not PET bottles). Norfersk is showcasing how food manufacturers can contribute to lowering their carbon footprint while maintaining product protection and consumer confidence by using recycled material. Now food trays are back in the loop, and we need to move in that direction without downgrading or burning plastics, states the jury. Jury would like that to be communicated in the packaging for consumers.
